I've got a number of rackmounted and pedal compressors. However, for playing my bass through my amp, the Cali76 wins. But I don't record with it. What I'm saying is, my Cali76 Stacked Edition sounds great when used in front of my TT800 and into a cabinet. Assuming you don't have an amp, I'd suggest you get a USED hybrid head from talkbass classifieds. As you likely know, a hybrid has a solid state power section, but a tube pre-amp. All tube heads are pricey, and unless you are throwing down for an SVT or other 300 watt tube head, you may find that unless your cabs are very efficient or you mic .... Talkbass classified
